HALLOWEEN LUNCHEON FARE.. EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS-STYLE

NOW, TO ROLL THIS DELICIOUS MESS UP....IN A 5" TORTILLA!

So, just frown, Gordon and Alton.......I didn't caramelize the scallops...or utilize 'big' ones .....

for my quick lunch of New Orleans-style bay scallops with spicy brown Tibetan rice.......served on the Gustav Klimt china.......and an opportunity to re-utilize the copper and steel 'smiling face' sauce pot......

Having an 'almost too cloyingly sweet to eat' Robert Irvine Fit Crunch Bar, for an Energy Burst this morning.....

.........A 'taste memory' ISSUED FROM A CHILDHOOD MEMORY BANK.....THAT OF A 'BABY RUTH' CANDY BAR, THAT WAS ULTRA-POPULAR, WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL....AND WAS, OFTEN, SERVED IN SCHOOL LUNCHES, WITH A CARTON OF MILK...... SO, I DID A BIT OF QUICK  RESEARCH TO 'SEE WHETHER OR NOT' MORE/LESS CONCERN FOR LONG-TERM HEALTH WAS INVOLVED IN THE NEWER CANDYBAR PRODUCT.....:   THE "FIT CRUNCH": INGREDIENTS: PROTEIN BLEND (WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE), VEGETABLE OILS (PALM, PALM KERNEL, SOYBEAN), PEANUTS, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SUGAR, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, GELATIN [BOVINE], PEAR PUREE, SORBITOL, WATER AND APPLE JUICE. THE "BABY RUTH"    INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, ROASTED PEANUTS, CORN SYRUP, HYDROGENATED PALM KERNEL AND COCONUT OIL, NONFAT MILK, COCOA, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, GLYCERIN, AND LESS THAN 1% OF DEXTROSE, DAIRY PRODUCT SOLIDS, SALT, SOY LECITHIN, SOYBEAN OIL, CARRAGEENAN, TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS), LACTIC AC

THE CHALLENGE OF 'CHANGE UP'......

AWAKENING AT THE 'REGULAR' 5AM, I JOURNEYED DOWNSTAIRS TO MY ALMOST INCOMPREHENSIBLY CONGESTED KITCHEN, WITH THE INTENTION TO PREPARE THE 20-STAGE B'FAST THAT I HAD JUST DREAMT OF......NOTICING ALL THE DETAILS OF THE MORNING 'ROUTINE'......THIS SEEMED TO BE A LOOPING OF MOST, OTHER, MORNINGS......THE GRINDING OF COFFEE BEANS; THE LIGHTING OF CANDLES IN THE DARKENED ARENA; THE ORGANIZING OF INGREDIENTS; WARMING OF SKILLETS; THE PREPARATION OF MERLIN'S B'FAST....AND HIS ROUTINE RUN THROUGH THE KITCHEN.....CHECKING HIS FOOD/WATER BOWLS, ON HIS WAY....BEFORE DASHING TO THE LITTER BOX FOR HIS MORNING 'DUTY'.......SUDDENLY, I WAS ANNOYINGLY AWARE OF THE EXACT REPLICATION OF THIS ROUTINE AND, AFTER PREPARING A MUG OF CAPPUCCINO AND RIPPING OPEN A  'SUSTAINABLE ENERGY'  CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER CLIF BAR, RATHER THAN TOIL TO PRODUCE AN ELABORATE B'FAST.....STILL 2 HOURS BEFORE SUNRISE.....DESISTED, AND SAT IN A CHAIR.....CAT ON LAP,  DOING HIS '

THE YEARLY CHANGEUP......TO ESCAPE THE REPITITION OF FAMILIARITY......THE ADDICTION TO HIBITUAL NON-VARIENCE

Few step from the treadmill, and many who do spend the rest of their lives trying to 'get back on it'.......Next week, I'm 'testing' my own proclivity for both subconscious routines, associative sub-routines and habitual and often irrationally unreflective behavior. For example: since many believe that I am 'addicted' to Cooking and Eating, I've challenged myself to change my grocery-shopping habits by not getting any of my 'regular' food items, but instead.....trying only new and untested foodstuffs, then preparing these in new and heretofore unexpected ways. (aware, of course of the "Catch 22", there!) I discussed my 'plan' with an old friend who follows very strict and inflexible 'habituations' that I've long thought were both desensitizing and, eventually, boring. He thinks that 'Routine" and "Habit" insure long-term productivity, predictability and point prevalent normalcy; and, that the dis

NOT EXACTLY HEAD CHEESE PATE EN CROUTE.....BUT, SOMETIMES MY PALATE CALLS FOR IT.....PERHAPS, A RATIONALIZATION FOR A HEAVY CREME "REAL", FAR LESS SAVORY DESSERT... TO CLEANSE THE PALATE, AFTERWARD.......AND THE COCONUT WILL BE 'LIGHT WORK' FOR THE ANTS, EXHAUSTED FROM LUGGING THAT FAT-LADEN, HEAVY LUNCH DOWN THE DRIVEWAY

5am......I awakened from a dream...in which I was a 'contestant' on CHOPPED.......the challenge: a dessert, made from Braunschweiger, Orange Sherbet, Cilantro and Pickled Goat's Ears in Tangerine Brine.......Whew!......I don't even have any goats' ears in my fridge, so I settled for toasted green tomato and onion ciabatta with a thick slice of chub liverwurst and a cup of java with goat's milk......the sun is coming up, and the birds await those toasted ciabatta crumbs that I tossed into the driveway for them......a reason that I have a bagel-toaster with slide out crumb tray.......lucky wrens.....I thought about using the crumbs to make some fried eggplant....but reconsidered...after reading the caloric count for that liverwurst! a line of those huge, black worker ants have already begun to disassemble a chunk of 'liver spread' and, single-file, begun their march to the crack in the driveway that is the entrance to their underground maze......the
