Tea time.....which is, usually, Coffee time.....at 2, before the 'real' teatime...at 4.....


               afternoon 'tea time'.......eggs with scallops, tumeric, herbs and cheeses.....on strips of toasted sourdough bread.......and an obligatory afternoon java with heavy cream.....and a dessert in the making, now ...for another teatime with a visiting friend, in just an hour.......walnut shortcakes with lemon curd, I think...with a reawakening pot of Earl Grey.

Ginger tea, preserved orange and lemon peels in honey, with English walnuts atop chia seed, and cognac-marinated black raisin fruitcake fill the bill on a chilly morning......reconstructed from a taste-memory from last night's Muted-Colour Dream of High Tea at Harrods, 40 years ago......displacing a rather boring pre-dawn intention to have a poached egg on sourwood toast......demonstrating how dreams can enhance the ordinariness of a chilly, housebound morning, viewing...for the umpteenth time......Ang Lee's hyper-detailed romantic study of Jane Austin's "Sense & Sensibility"s focus on elegant dining at a well-appointed Table....guests, all in beautiful Jenny Beavan finery.......may I utilize your dessert fork, if you will, Zack MacLeod Pinsent, since you can, surely, nibble this...even while wearing white gloves?

  may be 'when one loves only the inside slices of bread and another, the 'end pieces'.......I am an 'end slice' person and have been 'one' since childhood.....Today's NuttZo 7 nut, 23 seed butter, sliced banana and Terrapin Ridge Hot Pepper & Bacon Jam sandwich...on toasted, gluten-free 7-grain bread is at the top of my personal Food Pyramid....especially, when served with a big cup of Kona, in which a generous portion of Ghirardelli 92% cacao dark chocolate is melted before adding a quarter cup of heavy cream......
