THE MOST AMBITIOUS OF INTENTIONS.....JUST BEFORE SUNRISE......

Image
ARE, TWARTED BY EARLY MORNING LAZINESS......AFTER 'IMAGINING' A FAR MORE COMPLICATED BREAKFAST, I SETTLED FOR A 3 MINUTE 'FIX'....BUTTER SHORTBREAD COOKIES WITH PISTACHIOS, WITH GLOBS OF ALMOND BUTTER, SWEETENED BY DOLLOPS OF ST. BALFOUR 'APPLE-CINNAMON' FRUIT SPREAD......AND AN OBLIGATORY CUP OF CHOCOLATE CAPPUCCINO.....FOLLOWED BY A RETURN TO 'UNDER THE COVERS' FOR 40 WINKS....BEFORE THE SUN RISES ABOVE THE HORIZON..

BOK CHOY, IN A GENTLE EMBRACE WITH SOME FIERY-HOT BEAN CHILLI.......

'"Feeds eight polite English ladies at 4:00 Tea"......or one American, just 'snacking', a couple of hours after their six course Dinner.......

CRAB MASQUERADER....WITH FRIED FISH GILLS AS 'LEGS'....

morning 'not-Italian' Pasta .......with a crab-like creature....hexagonal breaded parmesan crabcake with sculpted crab legs, smeared with Thai red curry paste.... atop fresh spinach fettuccini, cooked in vegetable broth with finely-chopped cilantro and parsley........ My Kitchen......Few Rules.....

I awakened this morning with a craving for a platter of crispy-fried Eggplant Parmesan, covered with a marinara sauce, and molten mozzarelli cheese, garnished with chopped basil......

Fortunately, Trader Joe's had a package of no mess/no bother, microwaveable frozen eggplant parmesan.........so, Satisfaction was nearby! ....

1:00PM ...not quite b'fast....not quite teatime......Oh!....that's "Lunchtime" isn't it?

a disk of deflating, puffy Paratha, cooked in an oiled, hot cast iron skillet, then anointed with smears of roasted garlic and onion jam before being piled up with spinach and paneer cheese, aka "Palak Paneer", and some sliced cherry tomatoes.....   Rolled up....if you can....or devoured with a knife and fork...or, if you dare...eaten like a Pizza.....I risked the roll-up, slicing the 'Roll' with a razor-sharp Damascus steel paring knife, then devoured the slices, without staining my buttoned white dining gloves....  A feat that requires both 'knife skills' and Level 4 Dining Etiquette Training , courtesy of  Zack MacLeod and Emily Post.

NIGIRI, ANYONE?

Most...well, just about all Americans, find 'eating bugs' repellent and disgusting.....We are the only flesh-eaters that have this distaste........Bugs are plentiful and are a cheap source for protein and minerals.... May I, at least, offer you some chocolate-covered ants or grasshoppers?  Crickets? How about some crunchy termites, then?

6 AM......awakened by a growling stomach, denied food for 12 hours......hunger, abated......yes...corn AND potato AND pasta AND toast.......fueling up for an active Tuesday.....

Image
having passed out from my earlier carb-fix........a return to 'Balance' for a 1PM switch-up.....green leafs and Ga. fruit......atop a skillet-fried German potato pancake...a Kartoffelpuffer.....hold the applesauce....since I'd have to make that from red delicious apples.....not!

Slender Asian Sesame Asparagus, lightly seared in a light, strained soy sauce, with chili peppers, crushed garlic and grated ginger.....

MY MY FIRST SLICE OF WATERMELON THIS YEAR! AFTER ALMOST LOSING MY APPETITE FOR IT, WHILE VIEWING COLE ESCOLA'S HOT PINK GETUP "THE TONY AWARDS", LAST NIGHT....

It's a 'good thing' that I'm not addicted to having foods prepared 'just one way' or by unvaryingly specific Recipes....

This afternoon, I awakened from a brief nap...and a dream...in which a crew of gardeners was clearing the Wilderness that I call "my yard" to plant a fig tree.....  I was feeling a bit disoriented, but hungry, nonetheless.....and lumbered to the kitchen to 'make something to eat'.    I must have been 'cooking in my sleep', because I awakened, again , in the middle of this cook to discover that I had placed the powdered tumeric into a coffee mug, awaiting the stream of fresh java from the expresso machine,  and had dumped the old, used coffee grounds from their 'pod' into the egg mixture.....I spooned most of the coffee grounds from the eggs and most of the tumeric from the mug into the eggs.....The resulting coffee was drinkable..... if not Turkish Street Coffeehouseworthy....and the Omelet, amended by a squiggle of ketchup, was better than the omelets served at The Pit Stop Gas Station , up the street...... .

Nah!.....edible, if not the best alliance of flavors......Tuna Salad and Avocado on Multi-grain Toast......A 'one time (only) event'.....

SUBSTITUTION COOKING......'HOW IT LOOKS' IS ALMOST AS IMPORTANT AS "WHAT IT IS"......

Other than feeling the 'heat prostration' from a trip to The Carter Center Famer's Mkt., The DeKalb Farmer's Mkt. and the Patel Indian Grocery..........I'm 'stocked' up for a week of relative seclusion and quiet.........Alas, after lugging all these new foodstuffs around, I'm too exhausted to cook anything.........Since I'd never cooked Alosinae, I got a pound of shad roe, but left it at the Market, because it had been mislabeled, and was being 'scanned' as filet mignon......another week perhaps......So,,,,polenta/coriander cakes, it is! And that's all right with me....
