THE BAMBOO FOREST BEHIND MY YARD IS SENDING IT'S MANY 'SHEATHED' SHOOTS INTO THE AIR......QUICKER THAN I CAN SLICE THEM UP.....




Not often, but today......a 'possible epic fail.....A pie, of 'sorts'......an example of 'not giving up', even when success is highly unlikely.. begin with a too-bitter dark chocolate pie crust, left too long in the oven, then fill it with sliced bamboo shoots from the yard...marinated in sour rice vinegar and sourwood honey....then, cooked in agave syrup & orange liquor, and 'flat' ginger ale, left on the kitchen counter a couple of days ago, thickened with cornstarch.....over a 'bed' of crushed, stale pan puri semolina puffs, then sprinkled with over-dissicated coconut shavings......I'll eat just about anything, rather than waste it to the trash can.......don't know about this one, however....I haven't the will/courage to taste it....yet! Should I risk wasting some really good whipped heavy cream.......to save this concoction? It 'ended up' in a pie, oddly enough!

    experience makes for predictability, doesn't it? I'm conjuring some coagulated cow's blood.....Korean style....with escarcot and crushed pine nuts....Wellington style....with pan-crisped radish greens........I have access to a hundred pounds of fresh bamboo.....so, if 'it' didn't work, I could have fed it to my neighbor's dogs, who will eat just about anything.....even the asparagus ice cream...that wasn't so successful.......even with English walnuts....

    Now, I'm getting enthusiastic about some coconut-cactus iced cream on a lake of pomegranate/orange crema....

THE TOUTED LARGESSE OF MEDIOCRITY....

  a visit, yesterday afternoon, to what used to be Loehmann's Plaza......now, renamed a more 'fashionable' Brighten Park...brought about a 'dinner stop' at "Eataliano-Kitchen-Atlanta", where our waitress insured us that this was the 'best Italian restaurant in Atlanta'........The food was a bit disgusting, however....... I asked "Are your chicken wings as good as the ones at Thaicoon...down the street? "...... So, minutes later a plate of greasy, underseasoned 'wings' appeared, accompanied by some wilted, tasteless 'celery sticks' and rubbery 'carrot sticks' and a bowl of el cheapo ranch dressing.....the 'commercial' kind that comes in those huge plastic jars..........ugh!......then come the desserts.......my dinner companion had a sugary chocolate brownie...made, of course, from a commercial mix.....(add water and, maybe, an egg and a cup of saturated liquid fat......probably corn oil), dump on some
