this picnic 'fruitcake on the grass' was never mentioned in Jane Austin's novel.....nor would these ladies have been served from the pedestrian, mustard-colored plate like the one I utilized this morning....

Ginger tea, preserved orange and lemon peels in honey, with English walnuts atop chia seed, and cognac-marinated black raisin fruitcake fill the bill on a chilly morning......reconstructed from a taste-memory from last night's Muted-Colour Dream of High Tea at Harrods, 40 years ago......displacing a rather boring pre-dawn intention to have a poached egg on sourwood toast......demonstrating how dreams can enhance the ordinariness of a chilly, housebound morning, viewing...for the umpteenth time......Ang Lee's hyper-detailed romantic study of Jane Austin's "Sense & Sensibility"s focus on elegant dining at a well-appointed Table....guests, all in beautiful Jenny Beavan finery.......may I utilize your dessert fork, if you will, Zack MacLeod Pinsent, since you can, surely, nibble this...even while wearing white gloves?

Obesity is now killing triple the number of people who die from malnutrition........billions of pounds of fat will be packed on between Thanksgiving and the day after New Years Day......

yet, Americans still awaken after sleeping on their fat asses, declaring "I'm starving to death!".....as they raid their fridges and stovetops  for yesterday's high-calorie leftovers..... This Thursday.....Thanksgiving Day.....a couple of hundred million people will be gorging on the 'products' seen on this table.....with little variation.......

PRECURSER TO THE HAMS AND TURKEYS TO COME, NEXT WEEK.........A WEEK OF VEGANISM TO APPEASE MY GUILT OVER THE POTENTIALITY OF DINING ON THE FLESHY CARCASSES ON THANKSGIVING PLATTERS

a fat, fried chicken leg and a small salad was 'enough', this afternoon.....with 'room for dessert', later.......

Chickens from "Baraka".........'Eat Mor Chikin'? Beans and rice are looking better and better!

I was, again,  thinking about the "meat processing plant" scene in ' GUN CRAZY'. ....wherein Peggy and John escape through a maze of  thousands of animal carcasses........which set me to thinking about the trillions of creatures we humans slaughter and consume.........There must be SOMETHING I can eat with impunity! Mass production of just about anything seems to lead to greed, chemicals and disrespect for living things......A case for back yard organic vegetable farming....and forget about the animals! The vast majority of the 74 billion chickens that we slaughter and devour spend their lives in total confinement—from the moment they hatch until the day they are murdered.....hundreds of millions spend their lives, confined to lay eggs......and on and on.... This number does not typically include the additional 6 billion male chicks killed annually because they are not profitable for the egg-laying industry.   ..I'm going on a speckled butter bean and rice diet fo...

blazin' hot luncheon of thick bean soup, with diced tomatoes, potatoes, speckled butterbeans, crowder peas, Italian flat beans, fire-roasted red peppers, raisins and apricots....seasoned with coriander seeds, cumin, coriander paste, ginger, cloves and powdered bay leaves......

It's not, exactly, "Greek" to me.......or Mexican.....or 'Southern', either.....

a tasty light vegan dinner of collard greens, onions and sunflower seeds, doused with Prelibato vinegar; spicy fava beans and cassava....  with the addition of polenta cakes with coriander paste & oil-cured, sundried tomato slices, dolmas with lemon juice and a crater of creamed potatoes, filled with grilled, chopped yellow bell peppers & grits, to contain the fava beans...........

WHEN YOU'RE HUNGRY, YOU CAN'T EAT 'GOLD', MELCHIOR.......BRING ON THE CHOW, I SAY! AND....THAT AIN'T HAY.....

Whole wheat spinach noodles, pan-cooked in toasted sesame and olive oils, with super hot 'n' spicy mushrooms and beet strips, Prelibato white balsamic vinegar  and jalapeno jelly...with Harissa paste...f resh sun-dried tomato and olive focaccia bread smeared with remoulade sauce, with spicy pork tenderloin, shiitake mushrooms marinated in tamarind and date chutney, and long beans, sautéed in samosa chutney and almond oil...with a few dribbles of hot Kashmiri masala sauce... tiny bok choys sautéed with garlic, sunflower kernals, rosemary salt, white pepper and ginger/date/tamarind sauce........This is why camels have saddlebags, isn't it?   IS THERE REALLY A LOGICAL CONNECTION? IS ONE NECESSARY WHEN ANSWERING A STOMACH'S CALL?          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SQC-g2gY_Q

"Mamma Mia, that's a spicy Chili Meatball".... with a palate-sweetener OCD-ADD interlude.......

first non-traditional 'Meatball' Chili of the Season.....hot as molten lava!....over a bed of chilled broccoli, cabbage and carrots;.......next, a blackbean version...for a Mexican 'take'.....encased in a crisp taco shell;... ..then, leftovers' mixup with crunchy corn chips....(not a 'thrill', since I really craved some shoo fly pie and apple   pan dowdy...as I listened to an old Dinah Shore recording on the under-the-cabinet radio.......  "Sh-sh oo-fly pie and apple pan dowdy Makes your eyes light up Your tummy say, "Howdy" Shoo-fly pie and apple pan dowdy I never get enough of that wonderful stuff...." ' day 4 remnants'......I sauteed some asparagus tips, added some pomegranate sauce and fresh-chopped green scallions and dumped  'this' onto a skillet-fried Indian paratha....followed by some dark chocolate-covered expresso coffee beans and 12 oz of fizzy Sanpellegrino Aranciata Rossa....  made a black bean version...for ...
