Chickens from "Baraka".........'Eat Mor Chikin'? Beans and rice are looking better and better!


I was, again,  thinking about the "meat processing plant" scene in 'GUN CRAZY'.....wherein Peggy and John escape through a maze of thousands of animal carcasses........which set me to thinking about the trillions of creatures we humans slaughter and consume.........There must be SOMETHING I can eat with impunity! Mass production of just about anything seems to lead to greed, chemicals and disrespect for living things......A case for back yard organic vegetable farming....and forget about the animals! The vast majority of the 74 billion chickens that we slaughter and devour spend their lives in total confinement—from the moment they hatch until the day they are murdered.....hundreds of millions spend their lives, confined to lay eggs......and on and on....This number does not typically include the additional 6 billion male chicks killed annually because they are not profitable for the egg-laying industry. ..I'm going on a speckled butter bean and rice diet for a while, as penance...Each year approx. 18K hunters visit Zimbabwe, alone... To kill big game...In the past 40 years, 60% of these animals have been killed by Men...

A TABLESPOON OF THIN BLACK TRUFFLE SLICES, MARINATED IN OLIVE OIL....A HALF TEASPOON OF ARGAN OIL & A DOLLOP OF MELTED BUTTER, WHISKED TOGETHER WITH SOME GROUND MEDITERRIAN HERBS AND CRUSHED, DRIED ROSEMARY....INTO WHICH A COUPLE OF 'END PIECES' OF 9-GRAIN TOASTED BREAD IS ADDED TO SOAK UP THE DELICIOUS 'FAT'....THEN, A TURNOVER, AFTER A MOISTENING SPRAY OF AVOCADO OIL, TO ADD A SLAB OF SLIGHTY-MOLDY EXTRA SHARP CHEDDAR CHEESE AND A COUPLE OF PRESSES WITH A WOODEN SPATULA.......SERVED WITH A BOWL OF RICE-VINEGAR-PICKLED CABBAGE......AND A 'SECOND COURSE' OF PANKO-BREADED PINTO BEAN PATTIES, FRIED IN AN IRON SKILLET, IN AVOCADO OIL, INFUSED WITH WHITE TRUFFLE SLICES; SOME CHOW-CHOW RELISH WITH ROASTED YELLOW CORN AND CHOPPED RED BELL PEPPERS; A BOWL OF SPICY COLLARD GREENS, DRIZZLED WITH THICK PRELIBATO RED BASAMIC VINEGAR, SPRINKLED WITH ORGANIC OIL ROASTED SUNFLOWER SEEDS; AND A 'BALL' OF SPINACH AND YAMS, BINDED BY EGG YOLK, THEN LIGHTLY SPRAYED WI...
