THE SIMPLEST OF FOODS....

Image
....yellow corn grits, cooked in buttered water and grated parmesan cheese, then sprinkled with coarse ground black pepper... the Southern thickened Gruel .... and a not so simple dozen-ingredient crab'n'greens salad, with pickled artichoke hearts .......leftover grits will be crispy-pan-fried, tomorrow...for b'fast, and smeared with coriander chutney.....

half of Hobie's last evening's crab, mango, avocado, yellow tomato and butter lettuce salad, with a dribbling of thousand island dressing, ending up on a couple of toasted croissants this morning....

A PERFECT CULINARY RELATIONSHIP..........

Image
may be 'when one loves only the inside slices of bread and another, the 'end pieces'.......I am an 'end slice' person and have been 'one' since childhood.....Today's NuttZo 7 nut, 23 seed butter, sliced banana and Terrapin Ridge Hot Pepper & Bacon Jam sandwich...on toasted, gluten-free 7-grain bread is at the top of my personal Food Pyramid....especially, when served with a big cup of Kona, in which a generous portion of Ghirardelli 92% cacao dark chocolate is melted before adding a quarter cup of heavy cream......

Venetian blown glass birdie, wading through a dollop of tartar sauce, atop a cornmeal-crusted salmon cake, resting upon a broccoli cole slaw......

"SHIT ON A SHINGLE"

B'fast, this morning.....creamed chipped beef on toast.... and, for comparison, some microwaved...from frozen....Stouffer's 'timeless classic recipe' Not much difference in taste.....Go for the microwaveable!

STICKY, CRISPY POULET NUGGETS WITH BUG-LIKE SEEDS

Image
this should 'warm up' this chilly, late morning.........the last of 4, different, hot peppers.... assuaged by walnuts, spicy long-grained basmanti rice and Mandarin orange sauce, even burns the nostrils that 'run' while savoring the flavorful orange peels, garlic, scallions and sunflower seeds 'candied' over chunks of crispy fried chicken.......(.and, yes, I 'see' some toasted fly maggots squirming about over some chicken mcnuggets too!.......an example of 'bad' food photography!,,,,but, then, I'm not very squeamish at the dinner table....I know what was in the skillet, after all....So, pass the fried grasshoppers, please,,,,are you gonna eat the rest of those chocolate-covered termites?)

ONLY A SINGLE BISCUIT LEFT!......... "BISCUITI SUNT OMNIS IVIRA IN PRTES TRES"

Image
Slice the 'one' into three sections,  slathering 1/3 with pink grapefruit marmalade that I made yesterday....another 1/3, with apple butter....and a third third , with tangerine preserves?  No, Julius, I just rolled out some more buttermilk biscuits, since I'm not on any Gallic War rationing plan...There's "biscuits enough for All",  Vercingetorix; although 'Rome' is laying claim to a third of Everything ..

A beautiful salad with a not-so-beautiful bowl of leek soup....

Image
another beautiful, fortifying and tasty salad configuration by Hobie Whitney......served with my rather dense French onion soup and some of Hobart's Alaskan king crabcakes. ......low acid-level Kumato/black beauty tomatoes rule the salad plate.......

"ALL-IN-ONE" STOVETOP COOK ON A LAZY DAY.......

Image
working in my tiny, congested kitchen, the red, divided, non-stick 3-section skillet really comes in handy:....... the finished product......prep/cooking time 18 minutes .... pheasant breasts sauteed with thyme, rosemary, sweet antipasto peppers and hot pickled limes; yellow yukon potatos with basil...more rosemary, and powdered garlic; French green beans cooked in chicken stock, with quinoa pesto.. .....hits the right "spots" on my tongue.....for sure!

Now.... that it has warmed up enough for my finger to not freeze 'to' the silver fork.....a huge, if healthy, intake of chow...after an 18hr Fasting.....
